I shouldn't have

You guys, I drank the kool-aid.
Yup, I started my own Trip Around the World quilt !

I started with this stack of scraps
I pulled every piece of fabric that could give me at least one 2.5"x16" strip.
I spent a few hours last night cutting all 180 strips of fabric needed to make a 60"x70" quilt.

180 strips you guys. And I don't even feel like it made a difference in my scrap bins !
In fact, I feel like I created even more scraps !

This morning, I finished assembling those strips into blocks.
Now I just need to iron them. And cut them into more stips and sew them back together.
Why oh why did I do this ?

I don't even know if I will like the result. I'm not a scrappy person. I like to carefully chose my fabric and then decide where each print will go.
For those ?
I had my stack of strips and I picked two and sewed them together, no matter how ugly they looked together. I only made sure one print wouldn't end up twice in the same block.
I even used fabric I don't like !

We will see... If I hate it, I'll sell it or give it away.

I forgot to show you this bag I made for my partner in the Sew Sew Modern swap.
It's already on it's way to her..

There is a little bit of Heather Ross, Anna Maria Horner, Denyse Schmidt and Henna Garden.
There is linen, text and chevron. And there is aqua, orange and those AMH feathers (inside).
All things my partner  likes.

I'm still amazed at how Noodlehead patterns are easy to make.
Now I want to try that Go Anywhere tote and the Divided Basket (they would be great to store my patterns!) and I can't seem to stop making those Open Wide Zippered pouches.

Enough for today !
I'm going back to bed. I'm waking up so early this week that I'm tired at 9!

I want

1. Hand knit heart garland - To put on the wall over our bed
2. Paper heart garland - Or this one
3. Follow your heart - This is all there is to do
5. You are my sunshine - it's just happy
6. I want a hug - all the time.
7. Feather - I love feathers
8. Earth without art is just "eh" - So true. What would we do without our art ?
9. Heart - Because it's pretty.

1. Heart earings - Because they are pretty
2. Elastics - They would look good in my hair
3. Mason jars - To put on my nightstand with white flowers in them
4. Mugs - Because we are ALWAYS right, right ?
5. Cute plate - To keep my jewelery ?
6. IPhone case - I want an IPhone just to buy this cute case
7. Clock - Just because it's amazing !
8. Rug - 2 please. For our bedroom
9. Earings - I love teal, I love flowers and I love earings

My birthday (and Valentine Day) are coming up pretty soon.
This could actually be useful to someone !

Just because it's Monday and we all need a good laugh on a Monday.

The monkeys ? Hilarious.

A Lovely Year of Finishes - January

I cannot wrap my head around the fact that January will be over in just a few days.
And next month is my birthday month.
And I will be 24 ! I know it's not but that's old !!

Ok back to the subject.
You guys, I'm not proud of myself.
Guess why ?

Yes, this is my January project, still in a pile on my table.
Technically, there are still a few days left to January so if I can get my homeworks done, maybe I'll be able to at least finish one of those two pillows ?

I've made at least 20 items in January only, that's almost one a day and yet, I didn't work on this :(

How about you ? Were you able to accomplish your goal ?

Right after this post, I decided to work on it even if it means adding one or two borders !
That's what I did :

I have no plan for this yet. I know I'll keep it simple and I'll give the cat some eyes too. Poor thing.

WIP Thursday

I never seem to be able to make those work in progress post on time but oh well.

I had some time to sew last night so I made a few small things !
I had been afraid of the open wide zippered pouch for some time now but a friend of mine asked me to make one for her and so I couldn't say no. I gave it a go and it took me about an hour. As always, Noodlehead patterns and tutorial are well made so it was really easy to follow :)
These are a little boring to make, but at least, they don't take much time (1/2 hour top).

And finally, I made this little pouch for my partner in the Sew Sew Modern Swap...
hopefully, she'll like it!

Now I really need to finish those pillows for my mom because the end of January is just in a few days, yikes !
(and I'm going to her house tonight)

Oh and I need to test a block before I ask the ladies in my circle to make it.
I want to make sure it's not to painful to make.

Is approximately the amount of money I spent on fabric in 2012.
Fabric only. And I might have spent more. I tried to keep every invoice but maybe I've lost a few.

459$ on shipping. Put the two together and that's half a Janome right there.

But don't judge me ok ?
I'm sure some of you are worse than me.
And, I've sold a few quilts and a few other random things.

There no real point to this post.
Actually, I could show you something..
I could show you that quilt I made for my grandmother that I never showed you !

I don't like the pictures I took but I'm too lazy to get more so that'll have to do.
Very much inspired by this gorgeous quilt

And the dog !

I love it, she loved it, it's always folded on the bed and when she's cold at night, she uses it and my grandfather does the same with his quilt and I love it.
It ended up at  something around 54"x80" so it's pretty big.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to leave a comment or send me an email yesterday. I really appreciate it :)

I won't get into too many details but we talked for a while and it was nice.
I told him what was bothering me and he told me what he thought about all this and it was nice to say it out loud.
I found at least 3 reasons why I love him.
1. He lets me sleep on his side of the bed and he couldn't care less about it (I'm pretty protective of my side...)
2. He loves me just the way I am with all my emotions and fabric and sprituality and not wanting to eat meat and gluten.
3. He's the most patient man I know. If I had to be in a relationship me, I would have been gone a long time ago! I can be so annoying and yet, he's still there.

I made things !

It's a beautiful day here in Sherbrooke ! Cold (-20°C = -4°F) but sunny !
After a pretty intense beginning at school, I decided to allow myself to sew last night and today (sew or do whatever I want actually). I still have homeworks to do but hey, they can wait one more day right ?

So last night, I finally finished that romper I started last week !
Let me tell you something, and I feel I say this everytime but this is the cutest little thing EVER !

The fabric is a print by Erin McMorris (whom I love a lot, you all know that). It's feminine without being overly girly. And I happened to have the perfect solid to match.

I love all the little details on this - the braided straps, the knots on the shorts, the pockets (my firsts !) and the buttons. My boyfriend actually helped me pick them and I'm glad I listened to him.

I wish I was still small enough to actually look good in a romper.

I also made my Janurary bee blocks this morning and boy they came together really fast !
Ironing + cuttin + sewing < 1hour.

Erica requested steel-blues, grays, browns/taupes/rusts, and mossy greens. Since almost everyone used grays and blues, I figured I'd make my blocks orange and green.
Can't wait to see her quilt and for my month to get there !

And last but not least, a friend of mine asked me to make a camera carrier insert for her.
Took me 2-3 hours but it's done and she loves it, which makes me happy.
I'm always nervous to make something for friends/customers because I would hate it if they hated it !

I used Heath in Chocolate for the inside and a FMF print for the outside.
I was going to follow a tutorial to make it but in the end, I made my own thing and it works !

That's it ! Now I have to get in the shower. Yes, it's 3pm and I'm not dressed yet and I'm sure I'm not the only one :)

Home Tour : The Bedroom

I figured that since I don't have anything sewing related to show you,
I might as well show you where I live..

I'm definitely not "done" decorating those rooms but will I ever be ?

There is nothing on the walls yet..
I'm looking for the "perfect" pieces I guess.
I do have two frames but I can't find nails and I always forget to ask the boyfriend.

Anyway, here's our bedroom for now !

My side
His side

Yes, I like aqua/turquoise. And I sometimes think there's too much of it.
I hope once I hang things on the walls, it'll "break" it ?

I don't have classes tomorrow and I've been doing so many homeworks that I decided I would do anything I want without feeling guilty ! I can't wait (to sew and to show you stuff too !).

Are there thing you'd like me to talk about when I don't have anything sewing related to show ?
(because I want to blog but since it's mostly a sewing/quilting blog, I feel "bad" posting about random things..)

The one I couldn't show you before

I have so much to tell you !

1. Do you remember I swapped some Good Folks for a pillow (or two) ? Well, now that Melanie received it, it's safe to show you :)

For some reason, I had a really hard time getting the colors "right" so these are not the best pictures and the pillow is just so gorgeous in real life !

In this second pictures, the colors are a bit better.

2. Yes, I'm still making clothes for my niece. This one is a racerback dress in a very nice jersey fabric.
It was my first time sewing with knits and it wasn't as hard as I expected it !

I started a little romper today and it is the cutest little thing ever !

3. It was our Sew-In today (with the Montreal Modern Quilt Guild). It was a lot of fun ! I wasn't as productive as I would have liked to be because I was so tired !! My friend came over last night and they left at midnight and I wasn't able to fall asleep before 1:30am.
I still managed to begin my Madrona Road challenge quilt and I made the top of the romper so it's all good. (pictures soon..)

4. umm oh yes ! School started on Monday and OMG.
This is the worst semester ever and we're only one week in ! I'll be so so so busy and it makes me sad to think I won't have as much time to sew. I need this. I need to sew to stay sane. I know I will sew but I hate to do that and feel guilty about it because I should be doing homeworks instead. Don't get me wrong, I love my classes but I don't know, I need some "me time" and with work and the boyfriend, that doesn't leave me much !

Any tips on how to stay organized ? (I really need to get better at this and stop being so last minute ! You wouldn't believe how bad it is).

I think this is about it..
One last thing. I made this Jane Market Bag the other day for my sister. Since it's a present from her mom (same dad, different mom), she hasn't seen it yet.

Add caption
If you are looking for an easy tote bag, this is the one ! I can make one in about 2 hours.. it's this easy !

That's it ! What about you ?
What have you been up too ?
Talk to me !
I missed you last week :)

I'll be back to my normal self soon

And by that I mean quilting and not sewing kids clothes.
It's just that they are so cute !

On Friday, I made this little top :

The pattern is McCall's #6059
It wasn't hard except I had to completely improvise at some point because I didn't understand what they were asking me to do.

My normal self will have to come back because I need to turn this lovely fabric into a completed quilt by the end of the month !

It's for the Madrona Road challenge. I'm just waiting for two more prints to arrive and then I'll be ready.
I'm going to (try to) make this into a quilt :

Ballooning cushion
I would like to start this week because on Saturday, it our Sew-In day with the modern quilt guild.
Wish me luck!

Ohh and school starts today ! I'm really excited to go back and see everyone and learn :)

I have two questions for you guys :
1. Can you recommend cute and easy to follow sewing patterns  (either tutorials or patterns that you have to buy) ? (for girls clothes or course)
2. What do you do with your scraps ? Mine are getting out of control and I need to do something. I'm not good at scrappy random, there need to be some kind of order..

Don't be fooled by the size

My sister-in-law and I made a deal last night.
Since I don't know what to sew and everything on my list is boring for now, I decided to make clothes for her little girl. She's almost 2 years old already.
The only condition is that she gives me back everything once they don't fit anymore.

It's a pretty good deal isn't it ?
I already ordered a bit more fabric. My excuse ? 4.95$/yard. How could I pass ?

It's a size 2 so it's small. I love small cute things. Still, it took me a good 7 hours to finish.
Maybe the fact that it was my second piece didn't help. Or that it is a 3 on the difficulty level (the most difficult being 4). My first ever piece was the Empire top by Amy Butler so certainly, this one couldn't be harder !

The instructions weren't always clear. Sometimes, I had to figure things out by myself.. but it turned out great and I hope it fits on her. I'll make sure to take a pictures with my little niece. She's the cutest little girl ever (until I have a girl of my own).
I leaned to make buttonwholes ! And they are so easy. It's just like zippers, you're afraid until you try.

I'm definitely not done making her clothes :)

(and thanks to those of you who entertained me last night! - those who didn't ? I still love you)

I'm bored.

My list of things to do is getting so short that I don't know what to sew anymore.
I only have two pillow covers to make for my mom (and I don't feel like making this right now) and then I have to make a quilt for the Madrona Road challenge. Problem is I don't have the fabric. So I don't have anything to do anymore..

Luckily, there aren't any swaps starting today because I know me, I would sign up for all of them just to have something to do.

I could start a quilt for me but I'm having a hard time picking a pattern. Like I want to make so many things that I can't just choose one pattern you know ?
So I'm just looking at quilts in Pinterest and Flickr unable to settle on something.

That's all I had to say.

I'll leave you with a bag I started last night and finished this morning :

It's the Jane Market Bag. It came together really easily. I added fusible fleece to the exterior pieces because I wanted something that could hold up on it own.
Some people on Flickr said that it was a very unexpected mix of fabric they probably wouldn't have picked (but they liked it). Is it THIS different ? It doesn't look strange to me.
I mean, they are from the same collection so they fit together.

In any case, if my partner doesn't say anything, my sister said she really liked it so it's not lost.

Anybody who wants to talk with me ? I would love to "meet" you :)

p.s : for those of you how have had babies, what were the most useful things you had ?
I'm going to sew a few things for a friend who's pregnant with her first baby and I want to make something she can use everyday.

Craft it forward !

Yes, that's right, two posts in one day ! It's just that I've got stuff to show you tomorrow so I want to get this over with.

Back in October, Charlotte from Displacement Activity posted about Craft it Forward.
The idea is that you send a little handmade item to 5 people and these 5 people send something to 5 other people and it can go on and on and on forever :)

I was lucky enough to be one of the first 5 to comment on Charlotte's blog post and the other day, I got this cute little jewellery pouch.

It' now my turn to send something.. so be fast because only the first five people will get something handmade by me ! (please don't make me wait too long..)

Once you receive whatever I decide to send you, you blog about it and offer the same deal to five lucky people. You then have 9 months to send them a little something.

So, who's in ?

A Lovely Year of Finishes - January

I have WIP but I don't have UFOs in plastic bins hidden in my closet because when I start something, it usually is for someone else so I don't have the luxury to do that. It's a good things though.

I would be so stressed out if I had so many WIP.. What if you start something (and spend money on it) and then you don't finish it and a year later, you pick it up and don't like it anymore ?? I would never be able to just throw it away.

That's why A Lovely Year of Finishes is a brilliant idea ! Even for those of us, like me, who don't have many UFO/WIP.

Here are the guidelines (taken from Melissa's blog)

Here’s the plan: each month pick one project, anything you like (it can even be an entirely new project, so long as you can finish it in the current month) and tell yourself, “I Will Finish It.” Then write a blog post about the project and link it up to our Goal Setting linky party. Spend the rest of the month working on your finish. We will have a mid-month check, and though you are not required to link up to that post, it would be fun to see your progress! Finally, after you have finished your project, write a second (or third) post showing us your Lovely Finish and link it up to our “Finishes Party.”

It's totally doable!
I'm struggling a bit to pick my goal of the month since there are a few things I need to finish.
I decided to go with those pillows I was suppose to give to my mom for Christmas (ooops!).

Yes, that is another Someset Star. The cat was started by my mom and I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. I'll think about it today.

Each and every project I finish brings me one step closer to being able to sew a quilt (or three) for me ! It's so exciting (considering the only quilt I kept was my Granny Square Quilt made last summer).

So that's my goal for the month. And if I don't finish those, I'll have plenty to show anyway (like the awesome quilt I'm going to make for the Madrona Road Challenge. Hopefully, I'll be able to make what I have in mind !)

2013 is here !
(it's not here yet for me since right now, it's 10:45am, December 31st but I'm going to schedule the post so it will be posted at 12:00 Januray 1st - so let's pretend it's here ok?)

In 2012, I want to :
  • Make 3 quilts for me
  • Be healthier - We already eat well - we cook our own meal and eat veggies and fruits everyday, we eat fish once in a while, we don't eat meat nor wheat - but I want to really be healthy, stop craving chocolate and sugar, give my body everything it needs.
  • Exercise more (at least 3x/week)
  • Grow this blog of mine
  • Stop being so last minute (this is a serious problem for me, you have no idea)

I will also be halfway done with school this year
We will also celebrate our first year into our house and our 6th year together
And I will buy a Janome Horizon

2013 will be a good year.

And for you, I wish this new year we're stepping into will bring you everything your heart desire. Whether it be a baby, a new job, a new car, a house or even a new sewing machine. Anything really. As long as it makes you happy.
I hope you find peace, with yourself and others. And I hope you find love, for yourself and for others.

Every single day, do something that makes your heart sing.
