Fabric and other things

I've been quiet for the past few days because I was not in a sewing mood at all.. I've been sewing so much in the past 2-3 weeks that I was getting sick of it ! Everything should be back on track very soon, don't worry !

First of all, I'd like to thank Jess from The Elven Garden and MC from Slair's Lair because they both awarded me with a Liebster Award !! Since I already got one, I won't do what I should do another time because of all the blogs I read, everyone has either already been awarded a Liebster Award or got too many followers so I wouldn't even know who to give it to ! Thank you again ladies !!

Now, onto the fabric. I received some Monsterz yesterday ! It's so cute :)

I skipped the pink prints since it's for a baby boy quilt that my boyfriend asked me to do a couple weeks ago for her boss (who's pregnant!). I really don't know what to do with it yet but he only needs it in july/august so I'm in no hurry. Any ideas ?

I have a big new : WE BOUGH A HOUSE !! I still can't believe it :) We really wanted this one and we got it and we are so so happy ! We are moving in august and I can't wait ! I will even have my own sewing room ! I am very excited :)

Don't be jealous..

Miscanelly by Julia Rothman for Cloud9
These are really out of my comfort zone. They are black and white and neutral, which I've never used before. BUT, when I saw this and this I knew I had to get some. So I went looking on Etsy and found this cute little shop. The customer service was amazing and Alice, the owner, suggested Coral Essex Linen with the Miscanelly fabric (because I asked which one, out of three colors, matched best the bundle.. I also said that suggestions were welcome. That's when she said that Coral Essex worked well. She even sent samples of other neutrals!). I'm so glad I listened to her and bought it. It's gorgeous with the fabric, it really adds a little color (and, lets be honest, it needs it). I'll definitely buy from her again :)
I also bought these while they were still available. The pink/mustard one match one of the print from the Miscanelly collection AND the coral Essex Linen as well. How nice is that ?

I have no idea what I'm going to do with this, but it was on sale... It's my very first piece of linen/cotton blend. I love it ! It's now resting with my Mendocino and Liberty fabrics.

I didn't do much these past few days. I took a little break from sewing because I was kind of tired of it.
It's almost the only thing I've been doing for the last couple of weeks (because we, students, are on strike!). I still managed to make this little quilt top with some fabric I won recently :

This is not what I had planned to do in the first place, but when I laid it out on the bed to see what it would look like, I really didn't like it so with the help of my mom, we came up with this !
I think it's really cute and it came together so fast. Do you think people would be ready to buy a pattern of this quilt ? Because let's face it, it's really easy to do and it's kind of silly to make a pattern for a quilt that is this easy no ? What are your thoughts about that ?

On another subject. I "won" two more Liebster award.. Now, I don't know if I really need to make another list or not since I already won one. And all the blogs that I read daily either already got a Liebster award of have too many follower... What should I do ?

That's about it ! What have you been up to lately ?

My Granny Square quilt is finished !

First, I have to say that I LOVE voile. Seriously. It's the softest thing in the world.

The quilt was all basted and ready to be quilted. It had been for 2 weeks maybe but then as I was looking the fabric on the Sew, Mama, Sew! website, I noticed that the voile was on sale so I jumped on the occasion and bought some :) The best.decision.of.my.life. Really.

Soon followed an "unbasting" session (is that a word ?) and now it's all quilted and soft and gorgeous.

I chose the sundae print from Ruby by Bonnie&Camille for the binding because this has to be my favorite print ever and it matches the back so well (my mom doesn't think so, but I don't care, I like it) !

I'm in love with Voile. Are you ?

I really am into pillows lately. They are so much faster to make than quilts (and I had enough of these for now with 3 queen sized one in just 2 months). I like quick little projects :)

I am in love with the colors. They are so bright and fresh !
And since I cutted to much fabric last night, I might have to make another one (not the same, of course. I'm allergic to making twice the same thing).

This pillow is now listed in my Etsy Shop so I hope it will sell fast !

Talking about that, would anybody be interested in swapping(or buying) this :

This is all you need to make a Kitchen Window quilt top (there's a picture in my Finished Quilts 2012 page if you want to see it).
What happened is that I couldn't buy FQs at the time so I bought 1/2 yards instead. When my mom's boyfriend saw the fabric, he loved it and asked me if I could also make one for him.
So I cutted the fabric for two quilts. The thing is that now that I made one, I don't really want to make another one. I love the fabric, but one is enough.

I can also send you only the prints if you don't like the purple/green solids with it. I'm very flexible... I just want to get rid of it.

If anybody is interested, just let me know. I'll be very happy to send all this to a loving home :)

Oh free fabric, how I love you !

This is the bundle I won from the Festival of Scrapiness at the end of March. I was not going to enter but then I changed my mind at the last minute ! I'm so glad I did :)
There is some Fly Away by Amy Schlimer, the dots are Remix by Ann Kelle and there is also 1 yard of Kona Eggplant.
I love it :) And I love the fact that I did not spent money to have that (wait until you see what I actually bought..)

I have no idea what I'm going to do with it.
Maybe another (or two because hey, this is a 1/2 yard bundle after all) baby quilt.
Any pattern suggestions ?

I am running out of idea.
I did a zig-zag quilt, a wonky star quilt (and I'm not making another one soon), a granny square quilt, a colorbrick quilt. I like to try a different pattern everytime because there are so many choices out there !

So, any idea ? Please ?

And just because, here's my girl. She slept there for a couple of minutes... Oh those cats !

And while I was adding the picture above, she thought she's be more comfortable like this :

Sorry if the picture is really bad, I was laughing !

Wonky Stars

Good morning everyone ! This is going to be a very beautiful day because it's already 18°C (which is in the 60s for you guys in the US) and it's suppose to go as high as 30°C (which is approximately 85°F). Crazy !

Anyway, that's not the subject of my post. I finished my wonky star quilt last night. I was very happy because I was getting sick of making wonky stars. It was taking me about an hour and a half to make six :S It almost became a UFO.

It's really not my best picture. It's kind of grey outside since it's already hot ! I like warm (summer) days so much !

I would like to talk about backing. For this one, I used a pink/turquoise print I already had at home. It's cute but it doesn't match THAT much with the front. I wanted to know if your backing always matched the front of the quilt or if it doesn't matter to you... Because I feel like it needs to match but I've seen quilts where the backing had nothing to do with the front of the quilt !

When I pulled this out of the washing machine last night, I almost started to cry. See, I had a bobbin of blue thread (left from another project) and I wanted to use it so I pieced some stars with blue thread. I don't know what I was thinking... I was just too lazy to change it and I did not want to waste it I guess... But anyway, last night, I could see all the blue thread and I thought that it had bleed on the white fabric. It took me about 10 hours to piece the top (and it's a baby quilt!) and I was planning on selling it so this was the last thing I wanted. I dried it and it was better then but I still can see some blue thread and I don't know if I'm confortable selling it..  Maybe I could paint the thread ?

On another subject, have you ever checked out the search keywords people write to find your blog ? I do, sometimes and last night, I saw that : " sewing with love, laugh and live in it". lol It's funny isn't it ? It made me laugh so thank you to whoever wrote this :)

I don't know what to do today ! I think I'll start something new, again :) That's what you get when you finish the things you start !

Have a wonderful day dear readers !

Liebster Blog Award !

Lori of adventures in fabric awarded me the Liebster Blog award ! How nice is that ?
We "discovered" each other's blog through the Modern She Made Swap (created by Lori herself - and which I'm so glad I joined!)

The Liebster award (German for favorite) is for bloggers with 200 followers of less. As a recipient of the awad, you have the chance to thank and link back to the blogger who gave it to you as well as pass it along to five other deserving blogs.

I started blogging only 6 months ago. I really didn't know what I would do with a blog because I was afraid no one would read it or that I would have nothing interesting to say but I've never looked back ! If you are considering creating a blog, do it ! (and let me know so I can be your first follower!)

Enough about me..
The Liebster Conventions says that :
1. Thank your award presenter on your blogblog and link back to him/her (done!)
 2.  Copy and paste the award to your blog (done too!)
3. Present the Liebster Award to 5 blogs that you think deserve to be recognized (it's coming!)
4. Let them know by leaving a comment on their blog (will do that right after I push the publish button)
5. Have faith that your follower will spread the love too ! (I trust you guys!)

I have way too many blogs in my Google Reader, but I can't stop adding new ones everyday ! So when I skip a day or two, I need to spend an hour to catch up !

So without further ado, here are the recipients :

2. Jennifer @ The Threaded Chickadee
3. Sarah @ Sweet Dreams
5. Jennie @ Cheeky Handmades

Go give them some love :)
Thanks again Lori !!

You did not expect it this morning !

Are you ready ?

This is the (second) quilt I made for my mom's birthday. Except that she doesn't expect to receive this one :)
She started it many years ago (I should ask her... it could be interesting lol). The part with all the little squares was done so I just need to cut and sew the rest.. The cutting was done one night and the sewing the morning after !

I know she will be very suprised and very happy as well. You all wish you had a daughter like me right ? Just kidding.

Anyway.. the pattern is "Autumn Garden" by Kaffe Fassett. And the fabric, well, it's was a kit I think, from Kaffe Fassett as well.
It mesures 96"x96" so it's my biggest quilt. I think I'm going to take a break from queen sized quilt for a while. I still have one to bind and then I'm done with big big quilts. For now at least. But I must say it's pretty satisfying. I feel like I accomplished something !

I'll show you her "real" birthday quilt once she bring it back home :)

Some people buy clothes, I buy fabric !

Do I need to say more ?

Ok, now I'm off to actually making something !
(because there is A LOT more than what I'm showing you here)

Modern She Made Swap

So I told you I was going to participate to my very first secret swap. Before I even knew who my partner was, I had this idea of putting blocks into circles but I didn't know my partner's tastes, so I just kept it in a corner of my head, waiting to see if it would fit her...

Now that I know her a little bit more, I think it will and am very happy with that because I don't know what I would have done !

I used EQ7 to "draw" something first and I came up with this :

These are either for placemat or a pillow (I don't want to say too much, in case my partner was reading this... which I doubt)

And then today, I made this :

I had a lot of fun making it and it came together really fast ! I used this tutorial to make the circle because there is no way I could have pieced it another way.
If you are into circle, you should really try it. It's fast and really easy !

Anyway, I really like it and I am keeping it all for myself :) It will look great on our bed !

Oh and does anybody has too much scraps and wouldn't mind sending some my way ? (I can swap/pay). I need reds/oranges/yellows for a project and I really don't need/want to buy half yards.

Fabric makes everything better

I consoled myself from not being able to go to the Sewing Summit with a pretty stack of fabric (my boyfriend decided we will buy a house at the end of the summer so I need to save money and going to the Sewint Summit would not help me... I'm already saving money for next year though.)

I think I'm addicted to fabric piles. Really.. I like to pull fabric from my stash just to look at them all pretty and stacked up. If you have seen my photostream on Flickr, you know what I'm talking about...

Anyway, wanna see what I bought ?

I've come to like this color combination and I think it will make a very pretty quilt for a little girl. And all the occasions are good to buy some pearl bracelets hehe :)  I might add one or two turquoise/aqua prints. And white sashing. And I might give a go to those wonky stars that I've been itching to make ! Do you have a better idea ?

Well that's about it. Enjoy the long week and happy sewing :)

Just Three Challenge and other things

Even though I've been very good at finish projects lately, I'm linking up to the Just Three Challenge for this month (April, already!). You can link up here if you want to !

#1 : Bind my mom's birthday present (which is sunday). I have the binding fabric, I just need to make it. Binding being my least favorite part of the process, I'm not looking forward to it!

Here's a picture, just because it's gorgeous.

The quilting is amazing and I can't wait to show you :)

#2 Quilt + bind my Granny Square quilt. It's basted, I just need to decide how to quilt it. I really want to do something different (no straight line or meandering quilting). Any ideas ?

#3 Would be to start something new ! Really ! Maybe I have to finish one of the baby quilt I started a couple weeks ago, but i'm not in a hurry. Oh and I need to bind (another one!) my color brick (or wall brick ? don't remember) quilt. I'm going fabric shopping today to console from not being able to go to the Sewing Summit hihi :)

What's your least favorite part of the quilting process ?

Here's a picture of all the quilts that currently live in my house. A house without at least a quilt is not a real home.

(The top two are for sale in my Etsy Shop, the third from the top is for my friend and I'll give it to her in just 2 hours, the fourth need some binding and then I don't know what I'll do with it, the fifth is my very first quilt and the last one is my mom's quilt). How many quilts do you have in your home right now ?

My first secret swap

You should check it out here. It sounds like so much fun :)
And I am so excited to get started ! I already have a lot of ideas and I hope they will fit with my partner's tastes ! The timing will be perfect because school will be over and I'll have plenty of free time.

Are you in any swaps ? Do you like swaps ?

Oh and I managed to finish my Backyard Baby Quilt this morning !
I really like it and hope that my friend will like it as much as I do !
We decided to go with a solid and a scrappy border without sashing and I think it's perfect.

I don't have a picture of the back yet, but I kept it simple. I used a yellow solid (because she really wanted yellow, and I didn't use any on the front because it wasn't pretty at all) and some of the leftovers I had. So that's 6 finished quilts this year (and two more to come soon).
It mesures approximately 43"x53". I started it on the 26th of March and finished it this morning so it took me  just 8 days to make it !
